Our first event of 2011 got off to a great start with clear blues skies, and a record breaking 51 teams competing for honours in 3 competitions, A, B and C grade.
For the first time ever, our A grade competition had 16 teams taking to the field, with some new additions such as SPAM, Blue Steel and the Irish National Team. After some great play honours went to last years series winners the Chromies, who edged out previous winners H2o in a hard fought final on Sunday.
A special well done to the Mariners and Munster who finished 3rd and 4th respectively, above some of Diamonds usual suspects such as the Dragons and Pioneers.
The trend of underdogs continued in our B grade competition with newly promoted Manchester Fish reaching the final at their first attempt at B grade. Unfortunately for the Fish, the more experienced Solent team played well and took the honours.
Other eye catchers were the GB under 19's, also making their debut in B, finishing in a creditable 6th place out of 14 teams. Although, questions were raised as to whether their pitcher was infact, under 19? or over 91 (sorry Bob).
21 teams took part in the C comp. and many teams still had chances for honours going into Sundays elimination. However, it was the Mezcalitoes Ninos and Oxford Spirit contesting the final, with the Mezcalitoes eventually taking top honours.
Just a note to remind all teams who have not yet entered Diamond 2, you have until Wednesday 25th May to guarantee your place.
The Entry form is available on our "forms" page.
Making their debut at Diamond are the fantastic KIK, who will be performing live from 21.30 in the main clubhouse on Saturday evening and this band are not to be missed.
Thank you for your continued support!!
